Governance Board

Our governance board members are the governing authority of KBRT.  With input from advisory board members, the governance board directs KBRT activities and effectively operates the organization.  Like its advisory board, KBRT's governance board is composed of very skilled and diverse individuals.  KBRT greatly values the experience and committment of its governance board.

 

KBRT Governance Board Members:

 

Jim Root
Mr. Root is the President of Sabroso Company, a family business engaged in food processing.  The Root family owns a 600 acre ranch in the Wood River Valley of Oregon.  Jim is a founding board member of KBRT and currently serves as its President.

Kurt Thomas
Mr. Thomas was raised in the Tulelake area of California, and has owned the 1800 acre Agency Ranch in the Wood River Valley of Oregon since 1982.  Mr. Thomas owns an agriculture-based venture capital fund headquartered in Bakersfield, California.  Mr. Thomas is a founding board member of KBRT and currently serves as its Secretary.

William Winner
Dr. Winner is the former Director of the Oregon State University Environmental Sciences Graduate Department, as well as a former professor in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology. Dr. Winner's research focused on the physiological principals of plant response to environmental change. Dr. Winner also served as the Program Director for Ecological and Evolutionary Physiology in the Division of Integrative Biology and Neuroscience at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Winner presently teaches at the School of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University.

George Parker
Dr. Parker is a member of the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He currently acts as the school's Dean Witter Professor of Finance and Management, Codirector of the Financial Management Executive Program, and the Director of the Finance and Accounting for the Non-Financial Executive Program. Dr. Parker was recently honored by the faculty with the Robert T. Davis award for his extraordinary lifetime contributions to the University. Dr. Parker serves on numerous other boards including Affinity Group, Inc., Santa Barbara, CA; Barclays Global Investors Exchange Funds, San Francisco, CA; California Casualty Group of Insurance Companies, San Mateo, CA; Continental Airlines Inc., Houston, TX; Converium Re-insurance Company, Zurich, Switzerland; Tejon Ranch Company, Lebec, CA; Previous boards: Board of Managers (Trustees), Haverford College, Haverford, Pennsylvania (1980-92). Dresdner/RCM Mutual Funds, San Francisco, CA (1991-2001).

Craig Stone
Mr. Stone is a consulting urban planner, who is currently principal of Craig A. Stone and Associates, Ltd. Mr. Stone brings his extensive experience in land use planning, site analysis and design, and land use permitting to KBRT. Mr. Stone also has a vested interested in the health of the Klamath Basin as he is property owner in the Sprague River drainage.

Ken LaGrande
Mr. LaGrande is Vice President of the Sun Valley Rice Company, LLC; a family operated rice production and processing company based in Williams, California. Mr. LaGrande and his family are also property owners in the Williamson River drainage, and have strong family ties to the Tulelake area of California.
